Caitlin-Maree Spaul is the Mums and Bubs Coordinator in Cunnamulla. She has a long history in early education and believes every child should go to kindy.

‘Early childhood is important for kids because it helps get them through their school years,’ Caitlin said.

‘Going to kindy helps them socially, and once they build their social skills, it helps with everything else.

‘Then they go through all their school years with all the friends they met early on.’

Caitlin said as an educator, she can see one of the biggest benefits for early education is that children can get one-on-one support from an early age, so they’re less likely to fall behind at school.

‘It gives educators an opportunity to help kids who require special needs in certain areas and then help develop their skills whether it be physical, mental, social or emotional,’ she said.

‘Then they can bring the right stakeholders in to help along the way to help give them a smooth start in early education.

‘I love seeing the kids grow and develop.

‘I just get a thrill out of that, I love it.’

Caitlin emphasised that culture in early childhood is critical towards building a child’s confidence which can set them up for a lifetime of learning.

‘Learning about culture at an early age gives them a sense of identity,’ she said.

‘It’s who they are, it’s always around them and hopefully it never dies.’
